Third-party cover is compulsory by law, but it does not pay for damage to your own vehicle. Here is what each one covers.
Every vehicle on Indian roads must have at least third-party insurance under the Motor Vehicles Act. But third-party cover alone may not be enough for you.
Third-party insurance
- Compulsory by law.
- Covers your legal liability for injury, death or property damage caused to others.
- Does not pay for damage to your own vehicle.
Comprehensive insurance
- Includes third-party cover, plus own-damage cover for your vehicle.
- Pays for damage from accidents, theft, fire, floods and other natural calamities.
- Can be enhanced with add-ons.
Popular add-ons
- Zero depreciation: claim settlement without deduction for depreciation on parts.
- Engine protection: covers engine damage from water ingress, for example.
- Roadside assistance: help with breakdowns, towing and flat tyres.
- Return to invoice: receive the invoice value if the vehicle is stolen or totally damaged.
